‘Public-Private Running Track’ is a spatial intervention to create a private exercising experience in a public space. The sense of privacy was achieved by limiting the jogger’s view of their surroundings. Inspired by the Woven Portico by Nicolas Feldmeyer I utilised fabric to create a separate space. I had two of my friends stand opposite each other holding up two banners at my eye level as I jogged back and forth in between them. The site for this intervention was the Independence walk at Independence Square. The project received more attention from the public since this location is a more popular running track in Colombo. It confronts the viewers with the question: why come to a crowded area just to create a way to block people out?
