Feathers

Styrofoam

the nest

The Nest is a vessel that not only contains food but also conceals it. The styrofoam swirls and the feather base encourage the diner to use their sense of touch to navigate around the meal. Feathers arranged in between the swirls act as a mask to conceal its contents adding a sense of excitement and mystery. Everyday crockery offers users a subtle tactile experience which is often outshined by the food they contain. Meret Oppenheim’s fur-lined teacup challenges this concept by transforming the experience of using a teacup completely. Her work informed the materiality used in this design.
